- The sparkling surface of the crystalline structure of quartz sand was the inspiration for the young designer. The brilliant crystal and the extra-ordinary pattern of the bowl have a wonderful and sparkling light refraction. After the successful project with Parsons The New School for Design in 2007, Nachtmann expanded his relationships with world-famous design schools and initiated a new competition with the Pratt Institute in New York in 2010. The QUARTZ design by design student Catherine Merrick was awarded in this competition . Quartz sand is one of the essential raw materials in the production of crystal glass.
